Sing the Alphabet
|
When you hear this creative collection of alliterative alphabet anthems, you'll be amazed at the various verses and clever choruses. Whether it's the classic "'C' Is for Cookie" or "MMM Monster Meal," young kids will get a kick out of the frivolous fun while learning language set to song. Along with the lyrical letter tunes, there's a "What's My Letter?" skit with Prairie Dawn and Guy Smiley and a fantastic fable, "The Tale of Tom Tattertall Tuttletut," featuring Herbert Birdsfoot and the Anything People. You'd be hard-pressed to find a more alluring alphabet album anywhere.

Sesame Street 2 Pack - Elmo's Magic Cookbook / Elmo's Favorite Sing-Alongs
|
Elmo's Magic Cookbook
The irrepressible little red star of Sesame Street sizzles in Elmo's Magic Cookbook, but he's not the only celebrity to wave a wooden spoon here. It all begins when the tummy-rumble-inducing book the tape takes its title from is dusted off from its attic-dwelling days. First, it "alakazams" Jean, the ingredient-providing Julia Child of genies, onto Sesame Street for a primer on churning out a champion batch of ice cream (and one that, in one of a number of characteristically superb running gags, nearly causes Telly to collapse from arm fatigue), and then bam!--everybody's favorite Crescent City culinary whiz comes by to create the perfect pizza with the gang. Chef Emeril Legasse does one better than sprinkle the parmesan and pile on the pepperoni with expected panache--he also peels away the mystery of where cheese comes from. When Legasse leaves on a minestrone emergency, another apron-ready star steps in. This time it's singer Heather Headly, here known as Pocket Queen. Elmo, no dummy, is at first resistant to the queen's suggestion that together they cook up some pockets. When she takes him on a video tour of pocket-eating cultures, however (think China's dim sum), he warms to the idea, and what results is a scrumptious-looking summer roll. Each of the video's cooking segments is intercut with food-related bits from the show--Grover's hilarious gig as a hopeless waiter is one. In addition to a handful of recipes ripe for kid collaboration, this tape serves up customary Sesame-style excellence. No future foodie's video shelf should be without it.

Best of Elmo
|
This collection of songs from everybody's favorite little red monster will surely tickle the kids in your family. Elmo solos include the rockin' "Off to School," "Elmo's Rap Alphabet," and the sweet, inspiring "Just One Person." He gets a little help from his friends for the Joe Raposo classic "Sing," and Big Bird and Snuffleupagus join in for "Elmo's Song." Once you get used to hearing Elmo's tiny, preschoolerish voice, this charming album will have you and your kids "Be Doodle Dee Dum"-ing right along with it.

Sing Along Travel Songs
|
Road trips can be challenging to parents of young children. Sing-Along Travel Songs is an excellent way to help entertain car-bound kids and, at least temporarily, quell the repeated cries of "Are we there yet?" With a mix of traditional tunes such as "The Bear Went Over the Mountain," "Eensy Weensy Spider," and "The Alphabet Song" and Sesame Street traveling favorites including the bluesy counting song "Forty Blocks from My Home," the car-sound sing-along "Let's Go Driving," and Elmo's child-friendly cover of the Beatles hit "Drive My Car," this album offers a welcome alternative to repeated rounds of "99 Bottles of Pop on the Wall."

Born to Add
|
Little children love a rock & roll beat. The strong, clear rock rhythm is irresistible to toddlers and preschoolers who can clap, bounce, and wiggle with abandon to the rousing tunes. Though Born to Add is an educational album, it is set to a rock theme that will have tots shaking their booty around the living room. Be it the Springsteen-inspired title cut and "Barn in the U.S.A." or "(I Can't Get No) Cooperation" by Mick Swagger and the Sesame Street Cobble Stones, kids will enjoy the cool tunes so much, they won't even realize how much they're learning.

Dreamytime Songs

This CD is as gentle, loving, and comforting for rocking a baby to sleep as it gets! These are the kinds of songs a little one will always carry with them as a memory of their mother (or father's) caring embrace and that they will find themselves singing to their own children someday. Trust me, I know from experience! My mom played "I Don't Want to Live On the Moon" (on the TV - there wasn't a CD of it back then) and sang along to it when I was 3 years old, crying, achy, and sick one evening - and the tenderness of the song never fails to bring tears to my eyes in fond remembrance whenever the little ones in my life watch it today! And just to illustrate the sheer beauty of the song, regardless of MY memories, my dad even admits to being choked up by it! (not an easy feat, by the way!)
That's not to say this CD is a downer, of course! Not by any means at all! There are mildly upbeat little tunes like "Dance Myself to Sleep" and "If Moon Was Cookie" that are equally as adorable and memorable as my personal tearjerker favorite: I Don't Want to Live on the Moon.
It really is amazing what an incredible gift Jim Henson had. God bless his soul for all of the gentle beauty and love his work was full of. There is something so honest and pure about his Sesame Street songs that you really won't find anywhere else. I highly recommend this beautiful collection of lullabies and hope that I'm correct in assuming this will be a treasured collection of songs to sing babies to sleep to for many generations to come!

Elmo's Lowdown Hoedown
Available Format:
CD
|
Sesame Street is one of the most trusted brand names in all of television, and it's earned it. Elmo's Lowdown Hoedown isn't incredibly educational--your kids will not finish the album and start doing calculus--but there are lessons to be learned here: "It's Zydeco" introduces the musical style and a number of instruments; "Readers of the Open Range" encourages kids to pick up books; "A Tall Tale"--which features "Noel Cowherd" and "Polly Darton"--illustrates the limitations of gullibility. The music is, as always, topnotch, and the stories are fun. Special note: Elmo, the de facto host of the album, shows up on only a handful of songs, and Zoe is nowhere to be found.

Elmo in Grouchland [SOUNDTRACK]
Available Format:
CD
|
Following a long string of projects featuring the ticklish red monster, The Adventures of Elmo in Grouchland soundtrack serves up a group of goofy songs from the motion picture and favorites from previous outings such as Steven Tyler's rockin' anthem "I Love Trash" from Elmopalooza! While not as cohesive as Elmo Says BOO! or The Best of Elmo, this collection will nonetheless tickle the funny bones of preschool-aged youngsters. Highlights include Elmo's narrative of his (gasp!) lost cozy blanket and his journey of retrieval as he encounters Grizzy, Oscar, and the gang in Grouchland, as well as Tatyana Ali singing "Precious Wings" and Vanessa Williams as the Queen of Trash holding forth with "I See a Kingdom."
